Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events

Overall:
Meet the Baudelaire children: Violet (Emily Browning), Klaus (Liam Aiken), and Sunny (Kara and Shelby Hoffman). These three brilliant children are about to embark upon a journey that is fraught with danger, mystery and intrigue. When their home is suddenly burned to the ground, killing their parents in the process, the trio of Baudelaires are sent to the home of Count Olaf (Jim Carrey), where they discover that all is not as they expected.
As the children realize that Count Olaf is trying to kill them so as to inherit the fortune left behind by Mrs. and Mr. Baudelaire, they stumble across an even greater mystery that will ultimately reveal the answers they seek as to the cause of the fire that left them orphans.
Of course, there's always some room for adventure along the way, and Violet, Klaus and Sunny discover that a series of unfortunate events can be a rewarding journey, in the end.
Likes:
I haven't read the books (gasp!), so I can't compare. I thought the film was imaginitive. Jim Carrey was great, and the supporting cast was superb.
The children are excellent in their roles and the wee Sunny is hilarious.
I must commend them for being able to string together three of the books in the series without it feeling disjointed.
Dislikes:
The pacing of the plot seemed a little slow, at times, although the movie as a whole seemed short.
In Closing:
This ovie is a little dark for the younger children (6 and under), but your older kids will love it. A great family movie for days when April's showers have you huddling indoors.
